Can The Police Impound Your Car If You Are Doing 50 km/h Over The Speed Limit?

Yes they can, if you live in Ontario. A recent bill was passed that allows the police to seize your car on the spot and impound it for one week if you are caught going more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.

They will also take away your license for a week and give you an approximately $1,200 bill for the towing and impound. If you are also lucky you can get an approximately $10,000 fine.

If you are doing 150 km/h on the Highway 401 (current max speed is 100 km/h) they will take your car and license on the spot.
