They say that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery but the current Mitsubishi Lancerlooks a lot like the Lexus IS. Almost enough to say it is a direct copy.

At one point it took seven years from idea to concept to production vehicle. These days with 3D computer software the time is much much shorter. The current body style of the IS did come out before the Lancer and to me they look a lot alike. Did they see spy photos? Prototypes at auto shows? Maybe they just drew from the same inspiration.

Granted, other than sheet metal, the cars are very different. The IS350 puts out 305 HP which launches it from 0-60MPH in 5.3 seconds. By comparison, the Lancer has a modest 152 HP. There is more than two Lancer engines in ever IS350. Of course, you do have to pay for that performance, as the is more than twice the price of the Lancer.

If you like the styling the only way to truly experience either vehicle is to drive them.
