There is no excuse for so many accidents in such a light dusting. There was not enough snow to cover the road. Yet, someone in a hatchback decided it was a good idea to try to climb the built up snow and go over a 4′ high concrete wall dividing a 60 MPH highway. Well, they did not make it, they managed to damage at least 4 other cars in the process and they inconvenienced 1000’s of other motorists for hours after half the highway was shut down to save them.

Just after the accident somebody in a SUV got so excited they slid into the ditch. If they are invincible in the snow because of the 4 wheel drive why could they not get out of the ditch? ‘nuf said.

Yes, it was someone slippery in patches but how many people made it home without hitting other cars or sliding of the road? Lots and lots. There were way too many accidents for the weather conditions.

My race driving instructor would say that there is not excuse, ever, for an accident. Driver error is always the cause and the term ‘accident’ is not correct as it could have been avoided.

Maybe we all need to drive to the weather and take some more driving classes. Be careful out there.

So far this February we have broken some records for snow fall. If not for all time then at least in the recent years of snow fall we have beaten.

I have noticed that is always snows just before the morning rush hour or the afternoon rush hour. Is that trying to tell us something?

Every time it snows I always see people trying to drive too fast for the conditions. People need to just slow down and enjoy the drive.

Sometimes you do not have a choice and that is not much fun, I will admit. Crawling along the highway when you are trying to get home is a pain.

My car has traction control and snow tire so I feel comfortable in the snow. I find it is usually the SUV’s that are 30 feet in the ditch on the side of the highway. I guess they got a little too comfortable and lost concentration, then they lost control.

SUVs are very capable in the snow and I have seen them do some very surprising things in the snow. The problem is once they loose traction there is no regaining control. You are going to go where you momentum takes you. You are just watching at that point.

In the last snow fall the slowest vehicle on the highway was a Land Rover! Were they trying to tell us all to slow down or what?

The next time it snows, put on some relaxing music and just enjoy the drive.
